The program will load, the stage will be drawn, and the following palm tree logo will be displayed. p@ After a brief pause, the curtain will open to reveal the US @work area (the white box in the middle), two horizontal menus ("file" and "info"), ten icons at the bottom of the screen, and a number (indicating the current @frame number) in a triangle at the top of the screen. This triangle is known as the @status triangle . Begin by moving the mouse pointer over the @work area . Notice how the mouse pointer changes to a box. This is known as the @work cursor . Clicking the mouse button causes the area inside the @work cursor to change from whitened to blackened or blackened to whitened depending on what the area holds at present. This is how screens are created in US. The size of the @work cursor can be changed to a smaller size by selecting the HI_RES icon: AThis allows for finer detail. Clicking the LO_RES icon... Breturns the @work cursor to its larger size. Once a frame has been drawn, @IT MUST BE LOCKED IN ! ! ! To do this, select the LOCK icon. CThe frame is stored in memory, and you are moved to the next higher frame (the @status triangle is incremented). The next frame will not appear to be different after selecting the LOCK icon, but this is simply a feature to allow you to make the next frame similar to the previous frame. To see what the frame REALLY looks like, select "view" from the "file" menu or type @C= V (commodore key and "v" simultaneously). This is the "locked-in" picture or the picture the program use when it plays back all of the frames. @For example: If you have created a frame and locked the frame in by selecting the LOCK icon, go to that frame by using the NEXT_FRAME or PREVIOUS_FRAME icons... DOR E Once you you come to the desired frame, select the PAGE_CLEAR icon. FThis clears the screen, but doesn't clear the locked-in screen from memory. Now type @C= V to view the locked in value. As you can see, the frame is still intact. @To animate: First, create several frames, starting at frame 0, and lock them in. Second, go to the last locked-in frame and select "end frame" from the "file" menu. This designates it as the last frame of the to be shown while playing back the frames. Third, to start "flipping" or playing the frames back, select the FLIP_FRAMES icon: GDo not hold the button down after selecting this icon or you will stop the process. US will place a "PL" in the @status triangle to indicate that it is playing the animation back, and it will start sequentially showing the frames until it reaches the frame designated as the end frame and start over again. â|ß(0000000 Fourth, to stop flipping frames, hold down the mouse button until the initials, "ST," appear in the @status triangle . Release the button and US will return to its composition mode and the current frame nß(0000000 Fourth, to stop flipping frames, hold down the mouse button until the initials, "ST," appear in the @status triangle . Release the button and US will return to its composition mode and the current frame number will be displayed in the @status triangle. @Added features: To invert the displayed screen, select the INVERT icon: H US also has a buffer in order to allow you to copy and paste displayed screens. To place a displayed screen (not the locked-in picture) into the buffer, go to the desired frame and select the BUFFER_IN icon: INext go to the frame where you want the buffer screen to be, and select "recover" from the "file" menu. * You can save your work to a US Scrap file that can be loaded in later by selecting "save" from the "file" menu. NOTE: This destroys any previous US Scrap on the disk so, if you want to view the example US Scrap, be sure to load it before you begin creating anything on your own. You can load a scrap by selecting "load" from the "file" menu. To restart US, select "restart" from the "file" menu. This erases all locked-n frames so BE CAREFUL!!!. To quit US, select "quit" from the "file" menu, or select the QUIT icon: J @Keyboard strokes: The cursor keys scroll the displayed screen up, down, left, or right respectively. The home key causes the first frame (frame 0) to be displayed. @Keyboard Shortcuts: these allow the user to leave the @work cursor in a desired position, as a frame of reference, while allowing the user to perform certain functions. @ C= L: Locks in the current frame. (Same as the LOCK icon.) (ß(0000000 @C= B: Puts the current screen into the buffer. (Same as the BUFFER_IN icon.) @C= N: Moves to the next frame. (Same as the NEXT_FRAME icon.) @C= P: Moves to the previous frame. (Same as the PREVIOUS_FRAME icon.) @C= V: Views the locked-in value of the frame. (Same as the "view" selection in the "file" menu.) ß(0000000 If satisfied with this program, select the "info" menu. The following screen will be displayed as long as the mouse pointer is over the "info" menu: pK * @NOTE: Always remember to lock-in any changes you make to a desired frame.
